GMAP

GMAP stands for Google Maps Address Book Plug-Ins. Yeah, I know it's tortured.

What is it? Well, it's a pair of plug-ins for Address Book that allow you to get maps and directions from Google Maps. Just click and hold on the address you want mapped and select the choice you would like.

Because Google Maps does not currently work with Safari, these plug-ins only work with Firefox. Make sure you download and install Firefox before you using these plug-ins. Version 1.1 updates to use Safari as the browser, now that Google supports it.

If you know AppleScript, and know why I can't get this snippet to work, please let me know: tell me to open location googleMaps & addressURL

That was my attempt at using the default browser to open the URL, but it seems to do nothing.

In order to get directions, you must have set your own card. To do this, select your card in Address Book, then choose "Make This My Card" from the "Card" menu. The first address in "My Card" will be used.

The plug-ins will be installed for all users in the "Address Book Plug-Ins" folder of the main "Library" folder. You can install it in another location if you choose.

These plug-ins were built on two scripts from MacOSXHints.com mentioned in this hint.

Download version 1.1.

You may also download the individual scripts: Maps or Directions. Make sure to save as an Apple Script.
